March invites us to move from connection into creation. Where February grounded us in relationships and belonging, March challenges us to grow: to take what we know, what we’ve learned, and what we value, and turn it into meaningful, measurable impact. The latest edition of The Community Quill centers innovation, access, and growth in practice. This issue reflects the evolving landscape of Deaf education, where research, technology, and community insight come together to expand what’s possible for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners.

Here’s a look at what you’ll find inside:

  • 📰 Breaking News – The UK Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has found that staff at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust repeatedly failed to provide British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters for a Deaf patient and his family.

  • 💡 Spotlight on Strategies – A vocabulary and expressive language building classroom activity designed to strengthen narration and sequencing skills, expand comprehension and pragmatic language.

  • 📚 In the Field - While we wrapped up the end of our 2025-2026 Educator Series season, we are looking forward to the upcoming workshops of the new school year. We continue building our professional development opportunities through Literacy at Home, Authors of Note, and the EIPA Cohort. There is something new in the works to be announced soon.

  • 🌱 Bloom & Branch – Curated resources that celebrate women's history, use spring as inspiration for growth, and create excitement for the upcoming holidays.

March reminds us that progress in Deaf education is not just about new ideas, it’s about what we do with them. When we intentionally apply research, embrace innovation, and stay grounded in community, we create systems that don’t just support learners, but empower them. Because growth, when done well, is both purposeful and shared.
