Leonora C. Quill was a dedicated Deaf educator, professor, and mother of a Deaf child, whose passion for inclusive and high-quality education drove her work. With years of experience in the field, she was instrumental in developing innovative teaching methodologies, frameworks, and programs that empowered both Deaf learners and educators.
As a practitioner and advocate, Leonora blends academic expertise with personal experience, striving to bridge the gap between research and practical application in Deaf Education. Her work focused on creating accessible, equitable, intensive, and linguistically rich learning environments that foster the full potential of Deaf students. Through mentorship, collaboration, and thought leadership, she continues to shape the future of Deaf Education, from beyond her passing, inspiring leaders then and now with the understanding that every Deaf child has the opportunity to thrive. Her legacy continues to influence and inspire the field of Deaf Education.
Eleanor Quill Christman - Advocate, Educator, and
Trailblazer in Deaf Education



​Eleanor Quill Christman was a dedicated Deaf educator who devoted her life to teaching and advocating for Deaf students in both public and residential schools for the Deaf. A proud graduate of Gallaudet University, she combined her academic foundation with lived experience to inspire a deeper understanding of Deafness and Deaf culture. Thus bridging many between the hearing and deaf worlds. As a mother of two, Eleanor’s passion for education extended beyond the classroom, shaping her advocacy for accessible learning environments and equitable opportunities for Deaf individuals. Through her teaching and unwavering commitment, she challenged perceptions and empowered countless students, educators, and families to see Deafness not as a limitation, but as a unique and rich identity.
Mariann E. Christman

Mariann E. Christman is a trained and experienced Elementary and Secondary Educational Leader and a renowned teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Christman's experience as a hearing specialist brings a wealth of knowledge into planning, teaching, and coaching experience when developing and implementing the Quill Model. As a third generation revolutionizing Deaf educator, she has a desire for success through connection. Connection is at the heart of the Quill Model and serves as the base for decision making.

As a motivated and inspiring educator, Mariann works with a variety of children from the preschool through post-graduate level. Her experience at the state and national level has given her invaluable top-down insight in the implementation, accountability, and spirit of the law to meet the needs of children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Christman has over 20 years of teaching experience at schools for the Deaf, public schools, college level training programs, and with educational leadership. ​Mariann has a bachelor's in Special Education and as a fortunate Grant Recipient, completed her Master's degree in Deaf Education. Christman's desire to grow her skills as a leader and developer in her field, also obtained a Master's degree in the area of Educational Leadership.

Mariann evolves, delivers, and assesses academic training programs and helps schools and families analyze and determine needs and successes. She is well-versed in finding research options, planning strategy, resolving problems, and conflicts to achieve aggressive goals. Christman presents and lectures nationally and has served on several state and national organizational boards. ​Christman resides in Fort Mill, South Carolina with her daughter Cora.

Since 1960, our family has been breaking new ground in education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing by developing and offering solutions to current gaps in the field, service practices in the face of changes in education, focusing on both technology and teaching design, method and practices. Through partnering with a variety of academic legends and aspiring professionals with proven acumen in the field, continued work is being done daily to write a new future for Deaf Education.
